There are clear steps we all generally follow when facilitating a TRE session:

STEP 1 - ACTIVATING the tremors to find the ‘sweet spot’ or ‘goldilocks zone’ (not too hot, not too cold, just right!)

STEP 2 - Ensuring people are self-regulating body-based RESISTANCE or psycho-emotional overwhelm.

The next steps are about facilitating or deepening the process via the body & the mind.

STEP 3 - DEFRONTALISATION is the process of the mind or ego letting go & surrendering the movements more fully & freely. While we see this naturally occurring during a TRE session, we can also deliberately facilitate defrontalisation as well – not just in our clients - but in ourselves in our role as the Provider too.

The final steps are then how we work with the physical body to facilitate the process more deeply. While we are developing our skills in sensing & responding to their organism from deep within our own, it can be helpful to frame our observations with 3 simple areas in mind:

·     what is moving

·     what is not yet moving

·     what is about to move or wanting to move more

We can work with all 3 of these areas but looking for & connecting with the critical point where the body itself is about to move or wants to let go & move more freely can help us ‘follow the body’ & leverage our facilitations to be more efficient & effective.

While we can describe what we are then doing as either Interventions or Facilitations, I have found it can also be helpful to slightly differentiate between the two:

STEP 4 - INTERVENTIONS that are more focused towards facilitating that which is not yet moving

STEP 5 - FACILITATIONS that are more focused towards supporting & enhancing that which is already moving to spread, expand or express more freely.

This together makes the ARDIF model, and rather than making the process more ‘intellectualised,’ having this simple map for a TRE session helps many Providers find more mental space to allow them to sense into their own body and read & respond to the body in front of them more fully & freely.
